Trade and its impact on health and development in the Pacific

Wednesday, 21 July 2010

University of Sydney

Are you concerned about…

  • Tobacco, alcohol and poor quality food being promoted in Pacific island countries
  • Doctors and nurses being poached from Pacific countries to work in Australia
  • People in Pacific island countries having to pay high prices for safe drinking water
  • Pacific countries having one health system for the rich and another for the poor
  • Medicines being inaccessible for poor people in Pacific countries?

…..then you are concerned about trade.

PACER -Plus is a new trade agreement being negotiated between Australia and 13 Pacific island countries, which has the potential to put ‘wealth before health’.

Come to this seminar to learn more about PACER-Plus and what you can do to make sure Australian trade policy does not undermine sustainable development and the right to health in the Pacific.
