The People's Health Movement is a growing global coalition of people's organisations, civil society organisations, NGOs, social activists, health professionals, academics and researchers.
The founding document for PHM is the People's Charter for Health which was adopted at the first People’s Health Assembly (PHA1) at Savar in Bangladesh in December 2000. For more information about PHA1 and about PHM generally visit the PHM (global) website.
PHM is not a ‘new’ organisation; rather, it is a project. The project is to build links (better communication, awareness of common purpose, opportunities for collaboration) between various networks, nationally and globally who are working on ‘Health for All’ in different ways.

Australian Health Promotion Association
The mission of the Australian Health Promotion Association is to provide knowledge, resources and perspectives needed to improve health promotion research and practice.
As the lead professional association for health promotion in Australia, AHPA provides opportunities for the professional development of members, including the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and information. It also provides opportunities for the exchange of knowledge in the field of health promotion through the annual national health promotion conference, and the publication of the Health Promotion Journal of Australia and other contemporary media. Its purpose is to develop and comment on existing and proposed health promotion policy and programs in the wider community, to advocate for contemporary directions and to support members in their endeavours to increase public awareness of the concept of health. AHPA makes recommendations with respect to the standards and practice of health promotion as well as the training of health promotion practitioners. AHPA also represents the interests of Australian health promotion practice when liaising with other organisations.
In 2000 the Association became a member of the international organisation - the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). AHPA has a constitution and strategic plan which is accessible on the website. http://www.healthpromotion.org.au/
Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance - Northern Territory (AMSANT)
The Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) is a forum for community controlled health services in the Northern Territory of Australia to lobby for positive changes to the health of Aboriginal people.
AMSANT was established in 1994 after a three day meeting in Alice Springs attended by Aboriginal community controlled health services from around the Northern Territory. Some of these services had existed for over two decades, but this was the first time they came together to form an organised and united front.
AMSANT continueS to advocate for the rights of Aboriginal people to gain greater control of their health and their lives.
AMSANT was represented at the second People's Health Assembly in 2005.
Health Issues Centre
Health Issues Centre is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that has been promoting consumer perspectives in the Australian health system for over 22 years. Its mission is to improve the health outcomes for Australians, especially those who are disadvantaged. It works with a wide range of consumers, health providers, researchers, governments and other health organisations to achieve this through: policy analysis and advocacy from consumer perspectives; consumer-focused research; supporting consumer participation; and providing information.

Medical Association for Prevention of War (MAPW)
The Medical Association for Prevention of War (MAPW) works for the elimination of all weapons of mass destruction and the prevention of armed conflict. We aim to reduce the physical, psychological and environmental effects of war, and advocate for resources to be used for human and environmental wellbeing, rather than weapons. Membership is open to all health care professionals; and there are active branches in every state. MAPW is the Australian affiliate of the International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War.
