Sponsorships to attend the Second People’s Health Assembly in Ecuador

Invitation to Apply

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Special Interest Group (ATSIH SIG) of the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) is pleased to offer two sponsorships of $2000 to assist Indigenous health care workers to attend the Second People’s Health Assembly in Ecuador.

The assembly is to be held in Cuenca, Ecuador on July 18-23, 2005. This is an exciting forum of grassroots primary health care workers and social activists. Some PHAA members (including David Legge and Fran Baum) have been closely involved, and members of People's Health Movement met with and inspired others at the PHAA (and Health Promotion) annual conference last year in Melbourne. There will be strong presence of indigenous groups from around the world at the assembly, and there is much that Australian Indigneous health care workers can learn from and contribute to this meeting.

Conditions of Sponsorship

Successful applicants will be required to use the funds for necessary travel and other costs to attend the second Peoples Heath Assembly in Ecuador July 2005; and required to liaise with other Australians attending the Assembly prior to departure; to report back to the PHAA ATSIH SIG workshop in Perth on 25 September 2005 and write a brief report to the PHAA ATSIH SIG before the workshop (they would be encouraged to submit this report as an article for inTouch).
